GSC journey

How my code journey all started.

How it all started

My interest in coding didn’t start until a random modded game of Modern Warfare 2. So I started at looking into how this was even possible.

I ordered an Xbox 360 RGH console and decided to look into these things. I began learning C# on my own, watching tutorials and looking at random source code on GitHub.

Introduction to GSC

Eventually, I discovered GSC, the scripting language used in Call of Duty games.

It was my first real experience with game scripting, and I quickly became fascinated by what I could do with it. Being able to write scripts, experiment with game mechanics, and see my own code come to life made it incredibly fun to learn.

onPlayerDisconnect()
{
    self player_run_cleanup_register();

    if(!self isHost() && isDefined(get_host_player()))
        get_host_player() minimal_notify_info($"{get_name_clean(self.name)}: has disconnected", 4.0);

    self mapsmpgametypes_zm_zm_gametype::onPlayerDisconnect();
}

onPlayerConnect()
{
    if(!self isHost() && isDefined(get_host_player()))
        get_host_player() minimal_notify_info($"{get_name_clean(self.name)}: has connected", 4.0);

    self thread onPlayerSpawned();
}

onPlayerSpawned()
{
    if(self isHost() && !isDefined(self.minimal))
        self initialize_minimal();
}

#ifdef DEBUG
    debug_exit()
    {
        level waittill_any("end_game", "game_ended");
        Cbuf_AddText("disconnect;");
    }
#endif
